KUCHING: It was another proud moment for the state when it again received an international award for its achievement and exemplary usage of geospatial technologies.
The Geospatial World Excellence Award in Governance Category was conferred on April 24 this year during the gala dinner of World Geospatial Forum held at the RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Drawn from 49 entries from countries such as Sweden, Japan, United States, India, United Kingdom, Australia and Canada, the nominations were evaluated and judged by an international panel of experts in the field of Geographical Information System (GIS).
Receiving the prestigious trophy on behalf of the state was the head of the state delegation Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan, who was accompanied by Sarawak Information Technology and Resources Council (SITRC) chairman and SAINS chairman, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam.
Yesterday Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud received the award from Sains and Land and Survey Department at the State Legislative Assembly complex.
Among those present yesterday were Awang Tengah, Assistant Minister of Resource Planning Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais, State Secretary, Datuk Amar Morshidi Abdul Ghani and SAINS chief executive officer, Datuk Teo Tien Hiong.
The Geospatial World Excellence Award in Land Administration was a significant global recognition of efficient land administration and land management in the state.
It was also a source of motivation and driving force for the state civil service to continuously leverage on the Internet, latest technology and innovation to ensure an efficient service delivery.
