(BERNAMA; November 2, 2001) Kuching, Fri - State Secretary Datuk Amar Haji Abdul Aziz Husain said the state government, through its ICT implementing arm Sarawak Information Systems (SAINS), had implemented over 300 ICT projects for the civil service so far. He said more that 12,000 civil servants had also been connected within the SarawakNet, a private wide area network run by the state government through SAINS. He was speaking at a signing ceremony between Bank Utama (Malaysia) Berhad and four utilities providers to provide electronic banking services to consumers in the state here yesterday. Sarawak was among the first government in the country to recognise the use of ICT as a critical enabling tool in the public administration, he said. He said under its broad-based and sustained IT programme, commonly known as an E-Government initiative, the use of ICT in the state civil service had grown to be among the best and most pervasive in Malaysia over the last 10 years. The government had also provided IT literacy to all civil servants who need to use IT for their work, he said. -- BERNAMA. |
