KUCHING: Kuching City North Commission (DBKU) has embarked on a more effective and accurate monitoring system to track the working hours of its employees.

The commission yesterday launched the BioD'scan Fingerprint Attendance System to replace its punch-card system.

It is the first agency to use the system developed by Sarawak Information Systems Sdn Bhd (SAINS).

DBKU Datuk Bandar Mohd. Atei Abang Medaan said the BioD'scan Fingerprint Attendance System has enhanced features and benefits that provide better reporting and record-keeping of staff attendance.

"It allows fast and accurate real-time recording of staff daily attendance and the data is automatically captured into the DBKU's existing Human Resource System.

"The system is able to recognise and detect the fingerprints of employees in a matter of few seconds and rejects inaccurate fingerprints," explained Atei during the launch yesterday.

He said the system would stop the 'buddy-punching' commonly found in the punch-card system.

The system, he said would include tracking staff working less than the usual eight hours and staff who were on leave.
