80 students attend ICT camp

One for an album: The RIGHT ICT Camp 2009

BETONG: Eighty students from various secondary schools here attended an ICT Camp conducted by graduates of Rural ICT Guided Home-based Technopreneur (RIGHT) Programme to create greater awareness of ICT and its uses among the younger generation.

The camp, with the theme "Born IT" will exposed the students to the components of computer hardware, tools, software and networks through instruction, presentations, case studies, quizzes and hands on experience.

The three-day event, which was held at Pusat Sumber Pembangunan Desa Layar, was a joint effort by Sarawak Information Systems Sdn Bhd (SAINS), Ministry of Rural Development and Education Department of Betong.

Audrey Geruda Tullie, one of the participants said she was more familiar with desktop publishing and that the camp had helped her understand the potential of ICT.

Another student Mathiew Gasah Jagan, said the trainers were very knowledgeable about computers.

"The participants were very friendly and very skilled in the usage of computers", he said.

SAINS Chief Executive Officer, Teo Tien Hiong, Hamsien Atar (Principal Assistant Secretary in Rural Development Ministry, Sarawak) representing Chaiti Bolhassan the Ministry's Permanent Secretary were on hand at the closing ceremony.
