SAINS is pleased to announce the start of the RIGHT Programme for 2019. This year’s programme was officially launched by Dr. Gluma Saban, Section Head of Commercialization and Industrial Training, Representing the Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development (MANRED) on the 28 of June 2019.
The programme, which provides rural youths with free IT training, is designed to bridge the digital divide between the urban and rural communities in Sarawak in order to bring more socio-economic opportunities to the rural areas through the creation of future agropreneurs and entrepreneurs.
SAINS works together with sponsors to select youths from various rural communities to participate in the programme. The primary sponsor for the programme is the Ministry of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development (MANRED). RIGHT is one of the programmes under MANRED’s Agropreneur Muda initiative. Another important sponsor is MEASAT Global Berhad who works together with SAINS as part of its commitment to the rural community.
This year, 20 participants were selected to participate in the intensive 6 month programme. Unlike other programmes that focus on office automation skills, RIGHT focuses on proving a range of IT and entrepreneurial skills including basic programming, hardware repair, electric networking, graphic design, office automation, e-government applications, e-commerce skills, entrepreneurship and communication skills.
Since its inception in 2006, the RIGHT programme has produced 147 graduates who have gone on to establish ICT businesses in their rural communities, obtain gainful employment or further their studies.
